Activities

The main activities have been within the mandated frame work in training the stakeholders from the important departments which are always involved in managing the disasters.

In Campus Programmes 
Total of 103 programmes were conducted for 2746 participants at Rajendra Nagar. The focus of the programmes has been to increase the awareness level about the hazards, their effects on the society, the losses suffered and the measures to be taken to reduce the losses and damages. The duration of the programmes ranged between 2 to 6days. The target group comprised of all sectors and grouped into 3 to 4 districts. The 2 day programmes were conducted for specific department personnel from two to three districts. 

Off-Campus Programmes 
A total of 62 training programmes were conducted for sectoral officers of mandal level in which 4185 participated. 

Community Based Training 
Was conducted for the village level resource persons of 22 villages of Amalapuram Division in East Godavari District on Floods in May. Total participants were 1488. At the end of the training the trained persons and Volunteer Task Forces participated in Mock Drill a conducted by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the State Government Disaster Management Department. 

Documentation & Studies
In addition documentation work was undertaken for the hazards and Assignments as under

Gas well blowout at ONGC well no.19 at Pasarlapudi in East Godavari District.

Flood Impact Minimization Project Khammam. (Indo-German Project).

Study of all Cyclone Shelters in AP.

Post Disaster study of Nov.96 Cyclone in A.P

Cyclones in Andhra Pradesh Multi-disciplinary study.

Resource Directory of NGOs in Coastal AP.

Preparation of Contingency Plan for Earthquake in AP.

Community Awareness in Disaster Preparedness Project in 100 villages.

Preparation of Report of the Sub Group-IV of High Powered Committee ordered by Government of India on “Accident Related Disasters”.

Vision Document on National Centre for Disaster Management (NCDM) / National Disaster Management Bureau (NDMB).

Preliminary Draft on AP State Disaster Management Policy submitted to Commissioner Disaster Management Department, GoAP.

Draft submitted on AP State Disaster Management ACT, to Commissioner Disaster Management Department, GoAP.

Seminars / Workshops
During the International Decade of Natural Disaster Reduction (IDNDR) the Secretariat at Geneva advised holding of Seminars on the topics selected for the years by the member countries. The seminars were organized by this Institute on behalf of Disaster Management Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh (GoAP). The subjects covered are listed below:
